I am pleased to share that Adobe Acrobat Ideas, powered by Brightidea, is a contestant for the 2009 Forrester Groundswell Awards. The Groundswell Awards identify leading social applications that harness the power of innovative social technologies. Adobe Acrobat Ideas, using Brightidea's Webstorm software, is a new site for Acrobat.com users to share their voice, opinions and ideas about the services and features on Acrobat.com. The site is a great example of open-innovation fueling the process of 'customer co-creation' while providing early market validation and increasing user loyalty.

 Description of this entry:

Adobe Acrobat Ideas is a new site for Acrobat.com users to share their voice, opinions and ideas about the services and features on Acrobat.com. Since the beginning of 2009, more than five million users have signed up for Acrobat.com. Powered by Brightidea.com's WebStorm 5.0 technology, Adobe Acrobat's rapidly growing customer base can easily post ideas for Acrobat.com features, vote on other people's ideas, and submit comments and feedback. The best and brightest ideas from the community can then be used in future improvements and updates to Acrobat.com.

Acrobat.com is a set of online services — file sharing and storage, PDF converter, online word processor, and web conferencing — that take advantage of PDF, Adobe Flash® and Adobe AIR™ technologies to deliver engaging online experiences that go well beyond traditional office productivity tools.

Since the launch of Acrobat.com as public beta in June 2008, people have been using these services, including Adobe Buzzword and Adobe ConnectNow, to collaborate and communicate in real-time. Now, users have the opportunity to make the Acrobat.com experience even better by sharing their feedback.

How does this entry accomplish business or non-profit goals?

The goal was to empower Adobe's customers with a tool that allows them to personalize and rejuvenate the Adobe brand. In just a few months, over half a million visitors from 175 countries have contributed on average 400 ideas each month. By listening to this self-sustain community and ongoing conversation with customers the company is able to prioritize product updates and feature improvements more efficiently. This process of 'customer co-creation' increases user loyalty and provides Acrobat.com with early market validation for a new business concept.

Tatiana Meija, Marketing Manager at Acrobat.com notes, "We recently launched the Acrobat.com Ideas site using Brightidea's WebStorm technology. The site allows us to have an open conversation with users about ideas they have for our product, features they need and improvements they would like to see. It's a rich conversation with users voting, asking questions and building on each other's ideas. This community brings the customer voice into our product development process and marketing efforts."
